Businessman and GOP cheerleader Ron Gidwitz told the Chicago Sun-Times that to push out the party chairman with no plan to install a replacement "is absurd."
Party chairman Pat Brady resigned this week, citing personal reasons. Brady was under attack by conservative Republicans because of his support of gay marriage.
A leading opponent of Brady, state Sen. Jim Oberweis of Sugar Grove, told the Sun-Times that Gidwitz is mistaken, that there is a plan, and it's underway.
The Sun-Times reports the Republican State Central Committee held a conference call Wednesday and came up with nine candidates for party chairman.
