Dominic Szymanski, Barrington boy who lost foot in accident, returns to school

A Barrington boy who lost a foot when he was struck by a train will return to Hough Street School on a limited basis.

On Tuesday, he surprised classmates during a school assembly.

The Daily Herald provided photos of 11-year-old Dominic Szymanski's return.

He's using crutches but is scheduled to be fit for a prosthetic Thursday.

The boy thanked everyone for their thoughts, prayers and gifts during his recovery.

Szymanski was struck by a train in downtown Barrington in March.
