'Pollen tsunami' in Chicago, allergist says

May 20, 2013 (CHICAGO)

In fact, it's the highest it's been this season, according to the Gottlieb Allergy Count.

"The warm, humid temperatures over the weekend served as an incubator for mold, grass, weeds and trees," said Dr. Joseph Leija, MD, in a statement. "This is a pollen tsunami and those with sensitive respiratory systems need to keep the windows closed despite the beautiful, sunny weather."

Leija takes the official allergy count for the Midwest.

He recommends allergy sufferers run their air-conditioners, rinse their nasal passages with saline solution and was their hair before going to bed.
