CPS calls the transition from underutilized schools to the welcoming schools a "smooth and safe transition," according to the release.
About 11,800 students -- kindergarten to 7th grade -- attend the closing schools. Out of that group, 9,200 have already enrolled in news schools -- and 83-percent of those students will attend the "welcoming school" as designated by CPS, according to the release.
The campaign for early enrolment began on May 23. CPS will now focus on parents who have not yet registered their children for the 2013-2014 school year.
CPS says early enrollment helps the school prepare the welcoming schools with resources, budgets, and staffing.
With 403,000 students in 681 schools, CPS is the nation's third-largest school district.
