They found that in 2011 alone, 10 percent of crashes involving injuries were linked to driver distraction. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation sending or receiving texts takes drivers eyes off the road for an average of 4.6 seconds.
Among the tips in the new Decide to Drive campaign pull over and stop the car anytime a distraction occurs. Do not eat while driving. Don't multitask and just stay focused on the road, and that includes not texting while you are driving.
