Borcia was tubing on Petite Lake near Lake Villa last July when he was struck by a boat being driven by Hatyina. The 51-year-old Bartlett man pleaded guilty in April to aggravated DUI of a combination of drugs and alcohol.
On Thursday, Borcia's family read impact statements.
"I will never forget, two people on that boat, staring at us like they were watching a movie," Jim Borcia, father, said.
Hatyina faces up to 14 years in prison. The sentencing hearing is expected to wrap up on Friday.
