BPA is found in food packaging. The report in the journal PLOS ONE shows girls between the ages of 9 and 12 with high levels of BPA had double the risk of being obese than girls with low BPA levels.
The findings validate previous studies.
BPA is a chemical laced in everything from plastic bottles to metal food containers that can alter the body's metabolism and make it harder to lose weight.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said more than 92 percent of Americans older than age 6 have detectable levels of BPA in their bodies.
