Federal funds for work on Riverwalk, O'Hare

June 13, 2013 (CHICAGO)

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced Thursday that new federal loans will help finance new Chicago development projects.

Emanuel says the "intermodal center" at O'Hare will consolidate parking and rental car facilities while making the airport more accessible and will provide future opportunities for economic growth at the airport.

Plans include a new hotel directly on airport property.

Federal loans will pay for the Riverwalk project in full.

Modeled after the London and San Antonio riverwalks, construction is supposed to start later this year and be finished by 2015.
