Storm hits at rush hour
The fast moving storms struck right around Monday's evening rush hour, halting trains and interrupting traffic on area roadways.
High winds blew over two semis on I-80 just west of I-55 near Minooka, Ill., closing I-80 in the area.
The CTA held Red, Brown, and Purple line trains at Howard and Kimball because of blowing debris and high winds. Metra also ran into problems with some of its trains along the Union Pacific, BNSF and Metra Electric lines.
According to the FAA, flights were delayed at both Midway, where wind gusts hit 67mph, and O'Hare airports in Chicago due to the storms. Wind gusts of 67 miles per hour were reported at Chicago's Midway International Airport.
As many as 188,000 customers are without power, according to ComEd, and the hardest hit are in the southwest suburbs. Downtown Sound, a concert at Millennium Park, was canceled for Monday evening.
