The Americans with Disabilities Act is 23 years old Tuesday and the Illinois Department of Human Services celebrated the anniversary.

A wheelchair basketball exhibition was among the events the agency sponsored as part of the observance.

The agency says so far this year it has helped 5,000 disabled people get jobs and live independently.

There were also workshops, a job fair, and entertainment put on by people with disabilities.
