During the hot afternoon, a power outage on the South Side impacted about 800 customers, including Chicago Police Headquarters.

It began just before 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. A police department spokesperson called it a "minor inconvenience." The outage was enough to drive some people out of their homes.

"I just got up and got dressed and came outside because it was too hot to stay in the house because it was overheated," said Janet Irving, resident impacted by the outage.

ComEd has since restored power, but the cause of the outage isn't known.
