Chemical containers in Homewood to be removed

Preparations are being made for removing containers of chemicals found near a park in south suburban Homewood.

Years ago, it was used to house anti-aircraft Nike missiles for the Army.

A spokesperson for the Army Corps of Engineers says the containers are not dangerous. They contain rocket fuel and were buried before certain environmental guidelines were put in place.

The site is near Apollo Park and part of the area was closed as a precaution.
