Donations sought for life-size Roger Ebert statue in Champaign

September 10, 2013 (CHAMPAIGN, Ill.)

The fundraising goal is $125,000 for a bronze of the former Sun-Times film critic sitting in theater seats, giving his trademark thumbs up.

It would be installed in Champaign just outside the historic Virginia Theater where the film festival Ebert started is held.

The statue could be ready for Ebertfest next April.

Roger Ebert died earlier this year after a long battle with cancer.
