The anti-violence group CeaseFire is being forced to close the doors of its West Side and South Side offices after a $1 million grant from the city of Chicago ran out.

Money from the city's one-year grant ran out in August.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, a dozen part-time staff members were let go at the North Lawndale CeaseFire location, which closed in August.

CeaseFire says its Woodlawn office will shut its doors later in September.

CeaseFire hubs in the Roseland and Englewood neighborhoods will remain open because they are backed by state grants.
