September 23, 2013 (CHICAGO)

The resident lives in the Englewood community, is in his or her 30s and became ill in early August. The resident is currently recovering at home, CDPH said.

The most common symptoms of West Nile Virus are fever, headache and fatigue. Occasionally, a skin rash will be present. Symptoms may last a few days to a few weeks. However, four out of five people infected with West Nile Virus will not show any symptoms. In rare cases, severe illness including meningitis or encephalitis can occur. People over the age of 50 are at higher risk from severe illness from West Nile Virus.

CDPH encourages residents to secure windows and screens to keep out mosquitoes.
