PSA test for prostate cancer provides little benefit to older men: Study

A lot of the money spent on prostate cancer screening provides little benefit for older men, according to a study conducted by researchers at Yale University.

Last year the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force stopped recommending the PSA test for men of any age.

But Medicare continues to reimburse patients for this test and follow up procedures. But the researchers say most prostate cancers are slow growing and unlikely to become a threat to men over the age of 75.
