Father, daughter charged after human remains found on SW Side

October 6, 2013 (CHICAGO)

Jose Reyes Ramos had been missing since May. His brother is the ex-boyfriend of the woman charged in his murder. Her father is accused of helping cover up the crime.

The body of Reyes was found in the back yard of a home in the 8300 block of South Scottsdale.

While father and daughter are now charged in connection to the murder, in court Sunday prosecutors said that a third person - the one actually responsible for committing the crime - remains uncharged and at-large after having fled to New Jersey.

Two days after finding out that his ex-girlfriend is charged with his brother's murder, Jorge Moncada says all he can think of is of the two children he shares with her and who until now were in her family's custody.

"My sons can't stay with people like that," Moncada said in Spanish. "I'm going to fight for them."

Appearing in bond court Sunday morning, 19-year-old Daisy Gutierrez and her father, 56-year-old Salvador Gutierrez, stood charged, her with first-degree murder, him with helping to conceal the murder of 30-year-old Reyes, who went missing from his Humboldt Park apartment May 21.

In court Sunday, prosecutors said Daisy Gutierrez, in a videotaped confession, told investigators that she lured Reyes to her family home and took him up to her bedroom.

There, they say, an uncharged co-offender, who is still at large, hit him with a pipe, slit his throat and decapitated him. It is then, say prosecutors that Daisy called her father home and talked him into helping to dispose of the body by burying it in the back yard.

After the still unknown co-offender dismembered Reyes, his brother said Sunday, he believes Gutierrez's actions were taken as revenge against him.

The two had had a tumultuous relationship and a bitter breakup.

"She threatened me and my brother several times, she planned this," said Moncada.

Meanwhile, neighbors are already starting up a collection to help the family repatriate Reyes' body to his native Honduras.

"He was a wonderful person, a really hard worker, really nice. Like a neighbor, he always helped," a neighbor said.

Daisy Gutierrez, who is pregnant, was remanded to Cermak Hospital, her bond set at $2 million. Her father's bond is set at $500,000. Their next court hearing is Monday.
