Preservationists fought hard to save it but were unsuccessful in their efforts. Once the old building is gone, Northwestern plans to put a medical research center in its place.
A group called "Save Prentice" wanted the building's owner, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, to house a research facility in the building while offering greater economic benefit to the Streeterville neighborhood and city.
