The congregation of a Far South Side church held services outside Sunday morning in the snow and cold because the roof of their building collapsed.

The co-pastor of Christ Spiritual Way of Truth Church says the problem began with a leak, but he said there was a dispute with the insurance company.

The problem wasn't resolved and in August the roof collapsed. Pastor Willie Rivers says rain and snow are now coming into the building.

He says the damage totals nearly a million dollars. But the congregation has no plans to leave.

"What you see here is a collapsed building," he said. "But the church is made of people and we're going to stand on this ground. This is the ground that has been ordained from God for us to stand on and we're going to stand on this ground until they do right by us."

The congregation plans to continue holding services outdoors until their insurance company provides the money to repair the roof.
