Marine catches shark on California coast

December 13, 2013 (CAMP PENDELTON, Calif.)

Marine Jeff Fangman, his wife and their daughter went fishing, and when he felt he got a bite, they started recording video. Fangman, an experienced shark fisherman, knew this wasn't a regular fish.

"Low and behold it ended up being a great white," Fanman said.

He reeled in the young female great white shark, the first he's ever caught from a U.S. beach.

"Seeing it in the water was just... it was almost mind blowing. It's taken several weeks to get the whole ordeal to sink in," Fangman said. Great white sharks are illegal to fish, so he released his biggest catch back into the water.

"Just still kind of elated about the moment," Fangman said.
