Rats going indoors for frigid winter

February 3, 2014 (CHICAGO)

Several businesses say they've seen a spike in calls to deal with rats. They say because the ground is frozen, they can't make their burrows.

The city says its call for rat baiting has dropped 60 percent because there are fewer rats in public areas due to the cold.

Rat catchers say the rodents only need about an inch of space to squeeze through an opening, like a door.
