Despite a push to reduce hospital infections, a new report reveals one in 25 American patients gets one from their doctor, nurse or other source. That's according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The results are based on a 2011 survey of 183 hospitals in 10 states.

Researchers say 722,000 cases of infections were linked to health care, and 75,000 of those patients ended up dying in the hospital.

The statistics are an improvement. In 2002, more than 1.5 million cases were reported.
