Pit bulls attack seriously injures man in West Englewood

An off-duty police officer saw the 58-year-old man being attacked by four pit bulls about 9:50 a.m. in the 6000 block of South Wood Street when she shot and killed one of the dogs, according to police News Affairs Officer Thomas Sweeney.

The man was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in serious condition with wounds to his leg, police said.

Animal Care and Control officials took custody of the three other dogs, police said.
