Easter Family Fun On A Budget

Besides an egg hunt, what are fun activities families can make together without spending a fortune? Beth Engelman, founder of www.MommyOnAShoestring.com/ and columnist for Sun-Times Media, used to be a Kindergarten teacher. She came into our ABC 7 Eyewitness News studio to show cheap activities to do with kids.

Activities/ Materials:

1. Easter Baskets

  • Strawberry basket (one per child)
  • Construction paper (at least 2 colors)
  • Scissors
  • Ribbon (for the handle)

2. Bunny Treat Baskets

  • Paper plates (2-3 per child)
  • Pink Construction paper
  • Glue or stapler
  • Pink pom pom (one per bunny)
  • Markers
  • Ribbon

3. Bubble Wrap Easter Eggs

  • Hard Boiled Eggs
  • Non-Toxic Acrylic Paint, Paintbrush
  • Bubble wrap (cut into 2 x 7 inch strips)

4. Children Book Character Eggs

  • Eggs (hard boiled or plastic)
  • Children book images
  • Mod Podge or Glue/Sealant, Paintbrush

5. Bumblebee and Lady Bug Tic-Tac-Toe

  • 8-10 rocks
  • Non-Toxic Acrylic Paint, Paintbrush
  • Sidewalk Chalk
