Chicago weather: Mild weather welcomed after long, snowy winter

April 12, 2014 (CHICAGO)

Chicago is finally out of hibernation.

It almost seems unbelievable. After four months of sheer misery, the Chicago we all love is back.

"It's about time," said Mike Howard. "This is what makes Chicago bearable from November to March."

From beach volleyball to kite surfing to, yes, taking a quick dip in the Lake Michigan, North Avenue Beach was the place to be Saturday afternoon.

Downtown, it was the same story, as Michigan Avenue hasn't seen this type of crowds since Christmas.

"We wanted to do a bit of the tourist things because my parents are visiting," said Cecilia Heidemann. "Enjoying the weather outside, getting out of the house after that long winter."

And you couldn't have asked for a better day for a boat tour along the river.

"This is perfect," said Marlise Saldaña. "My family is in town. I can't wait to show the city and the sights and the buildings are pretty amazing."
