BURR RIDGE, Ill. (WLS) -- Three masked men forced their way into a home in the 8300-block of Clyndervan Road in Burr Ridge Tuesday night while a woman and her five children, ages 3 to 19, were home. One of the men had a handgun, police said.

"Men came into the house and searched the house for valuables," Burr Ridge Deputy Chief Marc Loftus said.

The woman and three of her children were either struck or held down by the men, according to the Burr Ridge Police Department. They were not seriously injured, but were treated at the scene by paramedics. No one required hospitalization.

One of the offenders had a black and grey semi-automatic handgun, police said. They were all wearing hoods and their faces were covered with masks.

The offenders were in the home for about ten minutes. They got away with cash and a credit card.

Police with K9 dogs were called in to help in the search. The offenders appear to have fled the scene in a vehicle parked nearby.

Burr Ridge Police sent an alert to residents, but said preliminary investigations indicate the home invasion was an isolated incident and the family was targeted.

"In this early stage, we're not thinking it was a random act," Deputy Chief Loftus said.

Anyone with information should contact the Burr Ridge Police Department.

"It's relatively quiet. There's space behind me. You don't hear neighbors, but I know them. And I know I could depend on them if I needed them," neighbor Dolores Rinke said.
