Memorial motorcycle ride pays tribute to fallen Chicago police officers

CHICAGO (WLS) -- More than a thousand people paid tribute to fallen Chicago police officers Sunday with a massive memorial motorcycle ride.

The Ride to Remember got underway a little after 9 a.m. at the 11th District Police Station in the 3000 block of W. Harrison Street. Hundreds of motorcycles were led by a team of uniformed police ride to commemorate fallen Chicago police officers.

The ride is in its 12th year and has a $35 entrance fee. Proceeds benefit the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation.

"We have school coming up, so hopefully some money raised here today will help those kids that don't have their parents anymore," said Chicago Police Sergeant John Roberts, an organizer of the ride.

The route started at Harrison and Kedzie and went through Chicago Boulevard to Washington Park, then to Lake Shore Drive down to the Gold Star Families Memorial just east of Soldier Field.

After the ride, there was a special program the Gold Star Families Memorial and Park.
