CHICAGO (WLS) -- Crews are investigating a house fire in the city's East Garfield Park neighborhood that has critically injured two people, officials said.
The fire broke out in the first floor of a home in the 300-block of South Albany around 3 a.m. Sunday, officials said. A man in his 30s and a woman in her 80s - a mother and son - were transported to local hospitals in critical condition. Officials say one of the victims was found on the second floor and one on the first.
The cause of the fire is under investigation; initially officials said the fire was not suspicious, although arson investigators have been to the scene and taped off the area.
A priest at the church across the street from the home said another fire started at an abandoned home Thursday.
"This is my parish and I'm concerned about all of the people of my community," said Fr. Christopher Krymski, Friar Servants of Mary.
