Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson underwent successful kidney transplant Wednesday, his doctors said.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson was released from the hospital Saturday afternoon, three days after having a kidney transplant surgery, according to the hospital.

In a statement from Rush University Medical Center, they said: "According to Mr. Johnson's transplant team, his kidney function is excellent. He is in good condition and making great progress."

Johnson received a kidney from his 25-year-old son Daniel, who was released on Thursday.
