New heliport opens in Near West Side

CHICAGO (WLS) -- There's now a new way to get from O'Hare Airport to Chicago's Near West Side in just a few minutes - you can literally fly.

Vertiport, a private helicopter landing pad that opened in the 1300-block of South Wood Thursday, is hoping to attract corporate customers.

Supporters say it will help the city recruit businesses and create jobs.

It's located in the city's medical district, so backers say it will be a base for emergency medical response helicopters as well.
