ALSIP, Ill. (WLS) -- All lanes of the southbound Tri-State Tollway at 127th Street re-opened after a multi-vehicle crash involving two semis shut down that section of I-294 for five hours overnight.
Illinois State Police said a man in his 20's lost control of his Toyota Camry around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday in Alsip. His car struck a construction pick-up truck parked on the shoulder of the Tri-State at 127th Street.
ISP said the man was ejected from the Camry, landed on the toll road and was struck by a passing semi truck. The semi driver slammed on his brakes and was rear-ended by another semi, according to police.
The man was taken to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, where he is listed in very critical condition. One truck driver was treated at the scene for a minor injury.
The cause of the accident is under investigation. There is no word yet of citations.
