CHICAGO (WLS) -- A group of local girls who made electric cars out of recycled refrigerators won the Icebox Derby Race at the Field Museum over the weekend.

Team mentor Kathleen Kremer, Icebox Derby spokeswoman Michelle Blaise and the winning team members showcased what they learned from the competition and from the six weeks leading up to the race.

ComEd teamed up with community partners Girls4Science, Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana and the Chicago Urban League to help girls explore opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math through the hands-on learning experience.
