CHICAGO (WLS) -- A judge denied bond Sunday for a man who fatally shot a 25-year-old Palos Park man under CTA tracks in the Lakeview neighborhood.
Kristopher K. Pitts, of Humboldt Park, is charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of armed robbery, police said.
He is accused of shooting Kevin O'Malley, 25, twice in the chest at about 2 a.m. Saturday.
Prosecutors said the two first argued then fought before shots rang out. Pitts allegedly stole O'Malley's cellphone and money and O'Malley demanded he give them back.
Pitts is a father of three, his family said.
"This isn't him," said Cassandra Gunter-Pitts, Pitt's wife. "I don't know. I just know that I have three kids, three babies. This doesn't sound like him."
Police said after the shooting, Pitts ran away and then dumped the weapon near a building in the 2900-block of North Sheffield. CTA surveillance video shows Pitts using a roof deck to access an El platform where he was apprehended.
Police said he had O'Malley's cellphone and was only wearing one blue shoe. The other was found at the crime scene.
On Sunday, flowers were laid at a small memorial under the CTA tracks, located near the 900-block of West Oakdale Avenue, a street lined with restaurants and bars.
Pitts has 2014 felony charge related to the assault of a police officer.
He is due in court this week for a preliminary hearing.
