CHICAGO (WLS) -- The massive fire at Harris Ice Delivery in Lawndale ignited on accident while the roof was being repaired, according to a Chicago Fire Department investigation.

A large column of black smoke and flames shot out of the roof over the Eisenhower Expressway, after a three-alarm fire broke out at the large commercial building in the 3900-block of West Harrison Street around 3: 30 p.m. Thursday.

A Level 1 Hazmat was called after chemicals Harris Ice Delivery uses, including propane, led to a few explosions. Some homes lost power and some neighbors were evacuated due to the Hazmat call.

Firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from spreading other buildings on the city block.

All the employees were able to get out of the building. One firefighter sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
