New hotel, walkway approved for Navy Pier

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A major face-lift for Navy Pier is moving forward.

The Chicago Plan Commission gave its approval to a redevelopment that includes a new "lake overlook" walkway that will take visitors out over the Lake Michigan on a pedestrian bridge.

The plan also calls for a new hotel on the landmark pier.

The next step is in securing private funding to help pay for many of the projects.

Navy Pier is celebrating its 100th birthday this year.
