Kevin Jordan, 43, was father of 7
SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. -- A police officer, shot and killed in Georgia, used to live in Chicago.
Kevin Jordan, 43, was shot and killed in a restaurant parking lot Saturday. Police say he was acting as a security guard when he asked three people to leave the restaurant early in the morning in a Waffle House parking lot on U.S. 1941 in Spalding County.
When Jordan was handcuffing one of them, another shot him in the back, killing him. The suspects are in custody.
Jordan lived in Chicago before moving to Georgia four years ago. He was a father of seven children.
The woman accused in the deadly shooting of the Griffin police officer appeared before a judge Sunday.
Another suspect, Michael Dwayne Bowman, is in Atlanta Medical Center in critical condition after he was shot by the officer's brother, who said his only regret was that Bowman survived.
"My only regret, I don't want to be bitter. My only regret, I didn't kill him," said Raymond Jordan.
A community gathered Saturday night to remember Jordan, a four-year Griffin police veteran. Jordan was working security at Waffle House and trying to arrest Bowman's girlfriend, who was allegedly being disruptive and abusive. That's when police said Bowman shot Kevin Jordan five times in the back.
Jordan's older brother, Raymond, who was in the parking lot, pulled out his own gun and shot the suspect.
"My brother was handcuffing her. He pulled a weapon out and stood over my brother and he shot him," said Raymond Jordan.
Bowman and his girlfriend, Chantell Mixon, have both been charged with murder. Bowman's younger brother, Tyler Taylor, has been charged with disorderly conduct.
On Sunday, 28-year-old Mixon seemed stunned and scared as a judge read her charges of felony murder at the Spalding County Jail.
Employees of the Waffle House said they recognized the trio from before.
"Whenever I seen them come in they'd always be drunk, raising cane and stuff like that," said employee Amber Robinson.
Funeral services for Officer Kevin Jordan will be announced Monday. Family members say he is a former Marine.
