Family struck by hit-and-run driver in Morton Grove, police say
Police said a 54-year-old woman struck an entire family and their dog with her car in suburban Morton Grove.

MORTON GROVE, Ill. (WLS) -- Charges are pending against a driver who police say plowed into two adults and a toddler in suburban Morton Grove, then tried to get away.

Police said 54-year-old Yogini Tailor of Des Plaines, Ill., struck an entire family and their dog with her car while they were walking in the 8500-block of Menard Avenue around 11 a.m. Wednesday, then drove off. She is charged with one felony count of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, police said.

The family was walking down the sidewalk when the driver lost control of her car, jumped the curb and hit a man and woman in their 20s, their 2-year-old daughter and their dog. The three victims were taken to hospitals in "stable" condition, police said.

Neighbor Janet Miller was just pulling out of her garage when she saw the woman on the ground moments after it happened.

"She had a little girl underneath her. The little girl was crying, dog's limping and she said they got hit by a car. And she said, can you go check on my boyfriend, he's over there," Miller said.

The man, who was the most seriously injured, appeared to have been dragged several feet by the car, which finally stopped after hitting the front of a house.

"He was pretty bad. He was bleeding from the mouth and everything. And I didn't want to touch anything so I said, 'don't worry, help is on the way,'" Miller said.

Miller said the driver stayed inside the vehicle for several minutes, then drove off without ever setting foot outside the car. Police were able to catch up to the driver a short while later, identifying it by the damage to the front of the car.

Police said they are continuing to investigate to determine what caused the driver to lose control and the exact nature of the victims' injuries.
