Man shot by off-duty police officer relative on NW Side charged

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 52-year-old man was charged after he was shot by a relative - an off-duty female Chicago police officer - inside a home on the city's Northwest Side.

Police said the 47-year-old officer shot her relative, James Holland, around 10:30 a.m. Sunday in the 3800-block of North Octavia Avenue after he came at her with a knife.

No one else was hurt.

Holland suffered a gunshot wound to the right shoulder. He was transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, where he was listed in good condition. He was taken into custody at the hospital.

Holland, who lives on the same block where he was shot, was charged with felony aggravated domestic battery and misdemeanor aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

He was ordered held at Cook County Jail on $100,000 bond, authorities said. His next scheduled court date is Dec. 28.

The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the shooting.
