SKOKIE, Ill. (WLS) -- A man has been charged in the hit-and-run crash that killed a beloved 78-year-old grandfather in Skokie.

The crash happened in October 2024 near North Crawford Avenue and Kirk Street, police said.

Alfred Slivo, 78, was crossing the street when he was hit by a vehicle that was driving on Crawford, police said. He died as a result of the crash.

Nearly two years after the deadly crash, Skokie police arrested Umeshbhai Parikh of Skokie.

Parikh is facing a felony charge for leaving the scene of a deadly crash.

Slivo's son told ABC7 said his father was walking to his sister's house. It was a route that he took often.

"This is terrible because maybe the guy had chances. I don't know. Maybe he had a chance, if the driver stopped to help him," neighbor Kostadin Stojanov said.
