It happens to many people. You drop your iPhone and your screen is cracked or shattered.

Well now, Apple is working on new technology to prevent that from happening, Apple Insider reports.

Last week, the US Patent and Trademark Office officially awarded Apple US Patent No. 8,903,519. The patent is for a "protective mechanism for an electronic device" which will essentially make your future iPhone act like a cat.

How, you ask? The device can apparently detect when you drop your phone. It then triggers an on-board vibration motor while the phone is in midair to shift the unit's center of gravity so that the impact of the fall doesn't damage the screen.

It's just like a cat that always lands on its feet

There is no word on when the technology might be implemented into future Apple products.
