Direct TV goes on demand

The satellite company says content will be delivered to consumers in two ways by automatic transmission on subscribers' digital video recorders and through the Internet, which would be streamed to the set-top box.

Direct TV has been testing the service in beta form and now plans to make a national launch this spring.

Content is expected to include 3,000 movies and TV shows.

Comcast cable already offers about 10,000 video on demand titles.

Pricing for video on demand has not been set.
