Patti Blagojevich starts allergy awareness program

CHICAGO The governor's wife was at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago to mark Food Allergy Awareness Week.

Mrs. Blagojevich announced a statewide education campaign called "Ask Before You Eat." The program promotes public awareness about the dangers of food allergies for kids.

Print advertisements, promotional wristbands and Internet ads will target child centers, park districts, summer camps and afterschool programs.

"Unfortunately, the reactions that some children have can be fatal. How to recognize a food allergy attack is the number one life-saving component that we have. Until there is a cure, we as a society must do everything that we can to save vulnerable children from the growing dangers of food allergies," said Patricia Blagojevich.

Three million children suffer from food allergies nationwide.
