Man shot by Forest View police officer

On Thursday around 1:30 a.m., a police officer responded to a call about a fight at the Third Down Sports Bar in Unincorporated Cook County just outside of Forest View.

One of the patrons threatened the Forest View police officer with a crutch. After several verbal warnings, the officer fired.

Forest View's police chief says his officer's response was justified.

"In this case he was using it as a deadly weapon. It appeared he was going to do harm to our officer and our officer ordered him several times to put it down -- at which point he did not and the officer had no other alternative but to use deadly force," said Chief Larry Brouk, Forest View Dir. of Public Safety.

So far, the identity of the man who was shot has not been released. He was taken Loyola University Medical Center in critical condition.
