The marathon starts at Calumet Harbor and has six beach check in points along the way, finishing at Leone Beach. This is the only world class race to paddle Lake Michigan and the shores of Chicago. Organizers expect 150-200 participants this year. People are coming from all around Lake Michigan and around the country. This year organizers are offering prize money, the first place winner in the 26 mile race will receive $3,000. People who want to watch can come and cheer the kayakers on at some of the beach check points that include: Montrose Beach, North Avenue Beach, 12th Street Beach and 63rd Street Beach.
