Promotions at Chicago Fire Department

October 16, 2008 12:47:24 PM PDT
It was a big day for some of the rank and file of the Chicago Fire Department. More than 100 fire department employees were promoted to their next rank Thursday morning at the South Shore Cultural Center.

They were joined by their family at the ceremony.

Top brass from the fire department handed out the promotions.

Chicago Fire Commissioner, John W. Brooks told the firefighters, "For those being honored today, there was another step [in being promoted] another goal to gain more knowledge, to not just become a member of the department but a leader and mentor."

Fire department promotions are granted after employees pass several tests consisting of drills and departmental general orders.

Time served in the department is also considered in a promotion.
