Quinn to meet with lawmakers in Washington

January 31, 2009 (SPRINGFIELD) Quinn spoke to members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees' union in Springfield over the weekend.

He says, during his trip, he also hopes to sit down with President Obama. The governor wants to discuss how the state can get money from the economic stimulus package.

Quinn also said one of his priorities is paying bills that are long overdue.

"We cannot have state government, the government of the people of the state of Illinois, going around not paying its bills to hospitals and vendors. And all those who do business with state government because all of those entities, all of those businesses, they have their own employees they have to pay," the governor said.

Some union leaders say they are looking to Quinn to restore faith in state government.
