National Guard brigade honored in Ill.

February 8, 2009 (CHICAGO) Approximately 50 members of the Illinois National Guard's 108th sustainment brigade received honors and awards in North Riverside Sunday afternoon.

The group was called to active duty in January 2008 and spent much of their time in Iraq training Iraqi army personnel.

"My parents, my husband, my daughter, all of my friends and family have been so supportive," said the brigade's Eileen Konopackisulit

"They have been away from their families and their jobs, and it was really an amazing tribute," brigade Cmdr. Christopher Lawson.

Each member of the brigade received an encased American flag, a commemorative coin, and a lapel pin as tokens of the Guard's appreciation for their service.
