Vitamin B may reduce celiac risk

March 13, 2009 The report in the World Journal of Gastroenterology says B vitamins reduce the risk of developing very high levels of homocystine. Excess levels of this amino acid are associated with vascular disease.

Patients with wheat intolerance or celiac disease lose B vitamins due to symptoms such diarrhea and extreme weight loss.

According to investigators, B vitamin supplements can help normalize homocystine levels.

The benefits of lowering homocystine is debatable, but researchers still say it's important to avoid vitamin B deficiency.
