The Windy City is home to the skyscraper- the first one, Home Insurance Building, was built in Chicago in 1884- and has one of the most recognizable skylines in the world.
Much of that skyline- including the Sears Tower and John Hancock Center- was built during a construction boom in the 1960s and 1970s. In the past few years, construction on new skyscrapers is once again changing Chicago's skyline.
