Chicago activist, civil rights leader dies

Dempsey Travis, a noted Chicago civil rights leader, entrepreneur and author has died. Travis passed away in his Chicago home on Thursday afternoon.

As president and founder of the Travis Realty Company, Travis created one of the largest black-owned businesses in America. He also produced twenty best-selling books as an author and publisher.

In 1960, Travis was instrumental in organizing Martin Luther King, Junior's civil rights march in Chicago.

Travis was 89 years old.
